This can only be a song of repentance. If you’ve been crucified with Christ and Christ lives in you, then you can’t have a cold heart and an un-renewed mind. I can only find verses against this song.

Romans 12:2 – “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Titus 3:5 – “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”

Verse 2 is garbage. We love God because he loved us first (1Jn 4:19), but it’s not impossible to love God if He doesn’t say your name or to want Him if He doesn’t want you first. Just look at the Samaritan woman who was begging Jesus to heal her daughter, and Jesus told her to go away (Matt 15:22-28 & Mark 7:24-30). Jesus didn’t show her that He wanted her first. But she insisted, so she received. He doesn’t have to want us first in order for us to want Him.

“fan the flame” is for us to do, not for God to do.
