Hell – Did Jesus go to Hell? ---

Hell – Did Jesus go to Hell?

Hell – Did Jesus go to Hell? Did Jesus go to Hell after He died?  Yup!  Jesus went to Hell; Sheol/Hades.  It’s the place everyone went after death.  Abraham (Luke 16:22-26), David (Psalms 16:10 & Acts 2:27), and all of the righteous dead went there.  It’s not that He was taken to Hell or that He fought Satan in Hell.  Satan has never been in Hell, but will be in Revelation times.  Jesus called Hell “the Heart of the earth” that He would spend 3 days and nights in (Matt 12:40).  It’s also called “the lower parts of the earth” (Eph 4:9). Did Jesus burn in Hell?  No!  Jesus told the thief who was dying with Him, “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:46).  How can Jesus be in both paradise and Hell?  It’s because paradise was in Hell.  I know that sounds like 2 opposite ideas, but Hell (which is Sheol in Hebrew and Hades in Greek) had at least 2 compartments.  There was a place for the righteous and a place for the wicked.  The place for the righteous dead was paradise, also called Abraham’s bosom (Luke 16:22).  The place for the wicked dead in the Greek is Gehenna; a place filled with...

Born Sinners: Are We Born Into Sin?

Born Sinners: Are We Born Into Sin? We are not born as sinners.  Sin is lawlessness (1John 3:4), “All unrighteousness is sin…” (1John 5:17).  Sin is an action; all sin is committed.  Infant children have done nothing lawless or unrighteous.   There are 2 reasons why people believe that we are born are sinners: Psalms 51:5 – “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” Exodus 20:5 – “For I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.”   Shapen in Iniquity – In Sin Did My Mother Conceive Me Psalms 51 is David’s Psalm of confession after he had Bathsheba’s husband killed and committed adultery with her.  Saying, “I was born in sin” was an exaggeration, and he only said that because of what he did.  One verse before, he says, “Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight” (Ps...

God’s Not Dead Movie Review ---

God’s Not Dead Movie Review

God’s Not Dead Movie Review God’s Not Dead is a movie based on the Newsboys song, “God’s Not Dead”.  At the time of writing (April 5, 2014) the movie scored 20% by critics and 80% by the audience on Rotten Tomatoes.  Of course, that’s because the target audience is Christians, but the non-Christian critics are forced to watch a movie they have not connection with.  As a Christian, I score the movie a 50%, but if I had to choose out of 5 stars, I’d give it 2 of 5 (I’ll explain as I write). The movie attempts to prove either that God exists, or that there isn’t proof that He doesn’t exist.  Since it is a Christian movie, there are connections to Christ.  But what the movie doesn’t do is try to prove that Christ is that God (or Son of God).  Just by default it assumes that if there is a God, then it must be Jehovah, I AM, the Father of Jesus Christ.  HOWEVER, this is complicated by a few...

Sovereignty – Limitations of God ---

Sovereignty – Limitations of God

Sovereignty – Limitations of God The majority of Christians today believe a doctrine that says God either causes or allows tragedy in His children’s lives.  Their definition of “sovereign” is that God is in control of everything, everywhere, all the time.  That doctrine also says that nothing happens without God willing it to happen.   This sounds good, but it is the reason why many people secretly hate God.  Let’s say that a man had a son who contracted cancer and died after many years of suffering.  The man is told that “God is in control”, “nothing happens outside of God’s plan, therefore this was God’s plan”, and the preacher at his son’s funeral even says “God took the child”.  I’m sure you can understand the resentment and emotional confusion that the man has towards God.  Yet, the man knows that if he hates God, he will go to Hell.  No Christian wants to hate or resent...

Noah 2014 Movie Review

Noah 2014 Movie Review Here’s my Noah 2014 movie review.  To sum it up in a few words it was well made, interesting, and not so biblically accurate.  At the opening weekend, Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie a 77% and the audience gave it a 70%.  I pretty much agree with that score.  I’d probably give it about a 6 of 10.  It’s not a bad movie, just not accurate.  What I like about it is that it will get people looking to the bible. Walking into the movie, there was a big poster article of Noah outside the door.  The poster said that the movie was banned by Muslims and some Christian groups.  Its emphasis was to say that this movie is an artistic piece of entertainment, and making it accurate would have been...

Long Lifespan in Genesis ---

Long Lifespan in Genesis

Long Lifespan in Genesis Why was there such long lifespan in Genesis?  I’ve heard theories saying it was because their food was more nutritious than ours.  Other people say that there was a cloud that protected people from the harmful rays of the sun, thus giving them longer life.  Are these long lifespan real or myth?   Adam died at age 930 (Gen 5:5) Seth died at age 912 (Gen 5:9) Enos died at age 905 (Gen 5:11) Cainan died at age 910 (Gen 5:14) Mahalaleel died at age 895 (Gen 5:17) Jared died at age 962 (Gen 5:20) Enoch was 365 when God took him (Gen 5:23-24) Methuselah died at age 969 (Gen 5:27) Lamech died at age 777 (Gen 5:31) Flavius Josephus Explains Long Lifespan in Genesis I don’t normally look to sources outside of the bible, but Josephus tries to explain the reason for such long life in Genesis.  Josephus was a Jew and a Pharisee.  Here’s what Jews believed 2000 years ago: Antiquities 1.3.9 (by Josephus) – “(104) Now when Noah had lived three hundred and fifty years after the Flood, and that all that time happily, he died, having lived the number of nine hundred and fifty years:(105) but let no one, upon comparing the lives of the ancients with our lives, and with the few years which we now live, think that what we have said of them is false; or make the shortness of our lives at present an argument that neither did they attain to so long a duration of life; (106) for those ancients were beloved of God and [LATELY] made by God himself; and because their food was then fitter for the prolongation of life, might well live so great a number of years; and besides, God, afforded them a longer time of life on account of their virtue and the good use they made of it in astronomical and geometrical discoveries, which would not have afforded the time of foretelling [THE PERIODS OF THE STARS] unless they had lived six hundred years; for the Great Year is completed in that...

How To Sin 101 ---

How To Sin 101

How to Sin 101 What is sin?  How can I do it?  Sin is not the same for everyone.  Some sins are universal, but other sin really depends on what covenant you are in.  For example, is it a sin to eat pork?  If you are circumcised into the Law of Moses, then yes, it is a sin.  If you aren’t in Moses’ covenant, then eating pork isn’t a sin.  Let’s go on to see exactly how to sin.   What is sin? Great question.  The answer that the bible gives is that, “Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness” (1John 3:4).  “All unrighteousness is sin…” (1John 5:17).  Having said that, is it possible to sin if there is not law?  “Before the law was given, sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death (which is the end result of sin) reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.” (Rom...

Storms NOT From God

Storms NOT From God Not every storm comes from God.  Just because God is able to cause a storm does not mean that every storm is from God.  Hurricanes come, but they aren’t necessarily God’s judgment.  I am an insurance agent.  Even before I began doing home insurance, it always annoyed me that hurricanes were called “acts of God” in insurance terminology.  In Mark 4, there was a storm, but God did not allow the storm.   Mark 4:37-40 – “And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.   And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful?  How is it that ye have no...

Jonah Died In the Whale

Jonah Died In the Whale First note that this is not a greatly supported teaching…  Like most bible believers, I once believed that Jonah miraculously lived in the belly of the whale for 3 days before he was spit up onto land to warn the people of Nineveh to turn to God.  The more I studied the situation and the language, the more I realized that it’s a strong possibility that Jonah died in the whale and was resurrected. Jesus & Jonah Died and Went to Sheol Jonah is a type of Christ.  Here’s what Jesus said: Matthew 12:39-40 – “But he (Jesus) answered and said unto them (religious leaders), An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the...

Son of God Movie (2014) Review

Son of God Movie (2014) Review The Son of God movie was pretty good.  When it comes to gospel based movies, you’ll never get one that is JUST like the bible.  Everyone wants to add things for clarity.  On the other hand, if you compare this movie to other movies in the theater, then it might not measure up well.  This is a movie that will make sense to Christians due to familiarity with the bible, but not so much to non-Christians.  It’s because of the bible that I liked it, and because of the bible that I find things I didn’t like.  It’s better than what comes on TBN though, that’s for sure.  Presently on Rotten Tomatoes, the critics gave the movie a 25% and the audience gave it an 80%.  I myself would probably give the movie a 70-75%.  Obviously the audience on Rotten Tomatoes were more so Christian and the critics, maybe not so much.  This is my review from a Christian...

Death – Where We Go When We Die

Death – Where We Go When We Die What is the death and afterlife process? What happens after a person dies? Where do we go after we die? Traditionally, most people believe that when a person dies, they either go to Heaven or they go to Hell.  That is the simplest way to look at it, but it’s more complicated than that, and I think it’s worth understanding.  There are 3 different points of time to consider.  In the past (OT times), everyone died and went to Sheol, which contains a safe side and a side of fiery punishment.  Presently, a person dies and their spirit goes to either Heaven or Hell.  In the future, our spirits will come back into our bodies, we will be resurrected, and those in Christ will live with Jesus on earth (not Heaven), while those outside of Christ are sent to the Lake of...

Evolution vs. Creationism

Evolution vs. Creationism I am a creationist, and I’d like to share why.  The bible and science do agree with each other, but first, we must distinguish the facts from the theories.  Yes, people have made up theories for both science and the bible.  For the bible, theories include that the earth is 5,000 or 6,000 years old (something the bible never says).  For science, theories include the Big Bang Theory and the Theory of Evolution.   Why Christians Can’t Believe In Evolution Today, many people who claim to believe in Christ do not believe in the literal creation as it is written in the bible.  They try to believe in both the theory of evolution and the bible.  Here’s why a person can’t believe in Christ and...
